Descriptive Writing

The 4th grade students have been learning about descriptive writing.  We have a great group of writers!  I think they have a good foundation and it is fun to build on what they already know about being good writers.  Last week the students got to go outside and write down observations about the outdoors.   They enjoyed using all five senses to complete a graphic organizer about observations that were touching or very near them, 20 feet away, and then very far away.  We are really trying hard to get more exact nouns, verbs, and adjectives.  The students are also learning about similes, onomatopoeia, and alliteration.

What's for Lunch?

This week the students are learning about food chains and food webs. Tomorrow they get to watch a Bill Nye the Science Guy video about food webs. Check out some of our work; looks like we have some future artists in this classroom.

The students have been learning about living and non-living organisms.  Today, they made terrariums using pop bottles.  Some of the students even brought a little something special to add to their terrarium.
