Edible Cells

We had so much fun in Science today!  The students learned about the parts of an animal cell while building an edible cell out of bread, jelly, skittles, Twizzler bites, marshmallows, and sprinkles.  The best part was getting to eat the "cell" after we learned about all of the parts.  Find out if your child can tell you what each part does.

Nucleus: the brain of the cell
Cell membrane:  the outer layer, the "skin"
Cytoplasm: the jelly-like substance inside the cell
Chromosomes: thread-like, determine your traits
Vacuoles: store food, water, and wastes
Mitochondrion: the power house of the cell, turns food and water into energy

First Day of School 2014-2015

Wow!  The day just seems to fly by!  The first two days were packed full of rules and procedures and yet we will still have to cover more on Monday!  The students were so well behaved these first two days.  Thank you, parents, for sharing your child with me this school year.  I think it will be a great year full of learning and fun!
