Boss of the Plains

We read a story about John Stetson and how the Stetson hat came to be. Mrs. Piercy brought her husband's hat for the children to see.
The students also enjoyed watching a video on the making of the Stetson hat.

Echoes of an Era

Paul Siebert, an author and musician, visited our school today. He told us the story of his grandpa's journey from Russia to Nebraska through the use of music. He talked about the Nebraska state flag. This was such a great experience for the fourth graders because they study the history of Nebraska throughout the year. A Hammer dulcimer, guitar, and banjo were some of the musical instruments Mr. Siebert played during the presentation. He showed how important the blacksmith was in the growth of Nebraska.

Perspective

The students enjoyed learning about perspective today. A parent came to our classroom and taught the students how to draw boxes. This will be a good skill to use when we draw the State Capitol later on this year.

What's my Subject?

Today, our class had a special visitor. A dad of one of my students taught us an art lesson. "The key to being an artist is to not make a big deal! " Each student was given a different subject(item) to draw after he gave a lesson on sketching. Good artists practice. The students divided their papers in fourths and did quick sketches. They were not allowed to erase "mistakes". I am sure they were having a good time from the giggles that I was hearing! Thank you to Buff for giving us an art lesson today.
