NETA Contest

Well, with the help of my artistic students, I created a video for the NETA contest.  It is a chance to attend a technology conference in Omaha at the end of April.  I think it will be an exciting opportunity to find out how little I know when it comes to technology!  :)

Perfect Profiles

The students learned a new vocabulary word: silhouette.  In order to get a better idea of the term, the students traced their silhouette and drew pictures of things that represented them inside the silhouette.  We then discussed how to use watercolors: how much water to use, how to make a darker color or a lighter color, the type of brush to use, etc.  The students used a black marker to trace over the pencil marks and then painted their silhouette.  Each one is unique!

Radon is an odorless, tasteless and invisible gas produced by the decay of naturally occurring uranium in soil and water.EPA estimates that about 20,000 lung cancer deaths each year in the U.S. are radon-related. Exposure to radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking.  Radon is a form of ionizing radiation and a proven carcinogen. Lung cancer is the only known effect on human health from exposure to radon in air.

Fourth graders at Chadron Intermediate School are trying to spread the word about the danger of radon.  Each student created a poster and competed in a poster contest put on by Panhandle Public Health District.  The first place winner, Tate Ryan, second place winner, Isaiah Beye, and third place winner was Kristian Bartlett.

The classes are also competing for free duffle bags.  The class who convinces the most friends and family to request a free radon test and submit the test for their radon results will win free duffle bags.  Please take the time to test your home for radon.  Call 1-(866)701-7173 ext. 107 for your free radon test.
